Summary
VoiceNotes does not collect, transmit, or store any of your data on external servers. Everything stays on your device.
1. Data We Do NOT Collect
- Audio recordings
- Transcription text
- Meeting minutes
- Chat messages
- Dictionary entries
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Device information
- IP addresses
2. Local Processing
All audio transcription (via whisper.cpp) and AI processing (via Ollama) occurs entirely on your device. No audio, text, or AI queries are sent to any external server.
3. Network Communication
VoiceNotes connects to the internet only for:
- License activation: Initial activation of your license key with our payment provider (Polar). Only the license key is transmitted, not your audio or text data.
- License validation: Periodic re-verification (every 24 hours when online). Works offline for up to 30 days.
- Model downloads: Whisper models are downloaded from HuggingFace. Ollama models are downloaded via Ollama's servers. These are user-initiated actions.
- Update checks: If auto-update is enabled, the App checks for new versions.
4. Data Storage
All your data is stored locally on your device:
- Database: SQLite file in your system's app data folder
- Audio/Video files: In your Documents folder
- AI models: In your app cache folder
You can delete all data at any time by uninstalling the App and removing the data folders.
5. Third-Party Services
- Polar (polar.sh): Handles payment processing and license key issuance. Subject to Polar's Terms.
- Ollama: Runs locally on your device. No data is sent to Ollama's servers except during model downloads.
- HuggingFace: Whisper models are downloaded from HuggingFace's servers.
6. Children's Privacy
VoiceNotes is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at voice-notes.org/privacy.
